Threadbar Applications in Geotechnical Engineering – A Technical Overview

Functional Distinctions
**Soil Nails** are installed in grouted boreholes and function as passive reinforcements. They rely on minor ground movement to activate tensile resistance and are commonly adopted for slope stabilization and temporary retaining structures.
**Rock Bolts** serve a similar purpose but are deployed in rock masses. They bind loose or fractured rock layers to stable substrata and are essential for tunnel support, rockfall mitigation, and steep face stabilization.
**Ground Anchors** are active, prestressed systems comprising a bonded anchor length and an un-bonded free length. Following installation, anchors are tensioned to apply a clamping force, thereby controlling displacement. This makes them the preferred solution when structural movements must be strictly limited.
**Micropiles** are small-diameter (≤300 mm) drilled and grouted piles reinforced with a central threadbar. Capable of resisting compression, tension, and alternating loads, they are well suited for foundation strengthening, underpinning, and projects with restricted access or limited headroom.
